This individual contributor, with minimal supervision, will take the lead in managing many aspects of research laboratory operations, including communication with stakeholders and support groups at the local Discovery site, as well as effectively meshing with the larger Merck stakeholder functions.  Specific duties may include the following:Execute, on behalf of MRL scientists, those non-scientific laboratory activities required to enable research, such as:
  • Manage stockroom operation and Point-of-Use supplies and reagents on behalf of researchers - optimize under dynamic conditions
  • Facilitate all capital equipment lifecycle processes within Merck financial and capital systems including onboarding, maintenance & repair, and disposition (relocation, scrap, donation)
  • Work with SAP ordering system for site based capital and consumable needs
  • Drive compliance for on-site chemical and lab reagent tracking
  • Enable/coordinate research material shipping, e.g. samples, reagents with other research sites and partners
  • Lab and office area assignment and responsibilities
 Act as a resource and liaison between scientists and support groups to provide connectivity and represent the needs of the laboratory, e.g. Facility, Laboratory Services, IT , Procurement, Sourcing Operations, Finance, Environment Health and Safety, and Maintenance & Repair.
  • Initiate and follow-up on equipment repairs
  • Submit and follow-up on Facility work orders for laboratory modifications and coordinate facility downtime with Facility support
  • Manage IT request support, e.g. network connections, software, hardware
  • Represent the laboratory on various Safety and Facility committees, supporting safety inspections and action item follow up as needed
  • Assist with site training as needed


  • Required:  B.S. in Chemistry, Biology, and/or science related field

    Required Experience:

  • Minimum of (5) years experience in the Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology industry
  • Minimum of (3) years Hands-on Lab and Lab Equipment experience in a research lab environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, InfoPath and SharePoint)
  • Knowledge of current lab safety policies and procedures

    Preferred Experience:

  • Asset/Equipment Management experience
  • Stockroom Management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Drug discovery / development processes knowledge
  • Strong collaborator and cross-functional team player who must also be motivated to work independently
