Post-Doctoral Research Fellow

The Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future at Boston University ( invites applications for three Post-Doctoral Research Fellow appointments starting in the fall of 2018, each for a full-time, two-year term.

We are searching for young scientists with strong quantitative skills, and a demonstrated interest in applying them to challenges related to the interaction of human systems (e.g. energy, agriculture, public health) and the physical environment. Knowledge of and experience with integrated assessment modeling is considered to be a plus. An interest in ecological processes and ecosystem services is also a plus.

In addition, we are searching for young scientists with a focus on environmental governance, climate change adaptation, and/or significant development challenges, especially related to rapid expansion of urban areas in developing countries. Demonstrated experience in collaborating with scientists of both natural science and social science backgrounds is strongly desirable.

Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, substantive knowledge and experience, and interest and ability to analyze longer-range trends and policy options in both global and regional contexts. The Post-Doctoral Research Fellows will join a community of scholars who conduct highly collaborative interdisciplinary, policy-relevant, and future-oriented research that contributes to longer-term improvements in the human condition.   

Reporting to the Director of the Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future and possibly one or more Faculty Research Fellows, Post-Doctoral Fellows work with faculty and students from across Boston University and elsewhere, as well as practitioners and policy experts. While candidates should have demonstrated experience in collaborative research efforts and the ability to work well both individually and as part of a team, the appointed Post-Doctoral Fellows also will receive mentoring in research, proposal writing, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Post-Doctoral Fellows are expected to spend 60 percent of their time supporting Center-related research projects and 40 percent on their own research as proposed in the application. Teaching is not required but may be arranged in certain circumstances. Research priorities for the Pardee Center can be found at, and candidates are strongly advised to become familiar with them.

Applications are welcome from recent recipients of Ph.D. or equivalent degrees. In special circumstances applications from advanced ABD doctoral candidates may also be considered. The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow is a full-time position with benefits. Final appointment will depend on the match to the criteria above and experience level.
