Columbia's Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute (Zuckerman Institute) brings together an extraordinary group of world-class scientists into the Jerome L. Greene Science Center, a state-of-the-art facility, to transform our understanding of the brain and mind. We are conducting pioneering research into how the brain develops, performs, endures and recovers.
The Institute seeks to hire a Staff Associate will work closely with the PI to enrich/purify protein complexes from postmortem brain tissue and solve these protein/RNA structures using cryo-electron microscopy. The Staff Associate is responsible for all tissue preps and screening of samples using biochemistry and electron microscopy.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Enrichment/purification of protein complexes from postmortem brain tissue
- Solve/interpret novel structures using cryo-EM and provide detailed structure analysis
- Design constructs for protein expression under the direct supervision of the PI.
- Participate in the optimization of protein purification protocols for the generation of cryo-EM- grade proteins
Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry is required; [educational emphasis in biochemistry or neuroscience preferred. Two years of previous hands-on experience within a molecular biology, biochemistry, or related lab is required.
Strong candidates will be interested and focused on interdisciplinary work.
