FUNCTION: Including but not limited to:
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and direction of the maintenance team leader, assembles, installs, tests, and generally maintains electrical equipment. Electricians will perform maintenance on any equipment or facilities which their skills support in a compliant quality manner. Electricians are part of the I/E Technician work group and will primarily share work assignments within their job grouping with no inherent or “system imposed” limits. Based on business needs, I/E Technicians will perform maintenance activities including crossing between job groupings where skills are common. Work assignments, buildings, and equipment are not exclusive to any craft, job grouping, or employee. Position may include some responsibility for maintaining significant business systems (e.g., Maximo data, planning, procurement, and scheduling) including the authority to assign, coordinate, and maintain work for others.

EQUIPMENT: Including but not limited to:
General tools common to the electrical trade, such as small hand tools, pipe cutting, threading and bending tools, pole line tools, soldering equipment and testing apparatus.

DUTIES: Including but not limited to:
  1. Working from drawings, sketches or limited instructions:
  2. Assembles, installs and tests electrical equipment, motors, generators, control equipment and electronic components. 
  3. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs conduit (EMT, IMC, Rigid, PVC coated, Aluminum, PVC, Flex Conduit to various outlets and panel boards.
  4. Installs, maintains, tests, and repairs lights, alarms, public address, power distribution systems and data processing systems.
  5. Performs any kind of necessary electrical construction work.
  6. Locates and remedies trouble on any circuit by performing electrical testing procedures. Performs load surveys and necessary test as required. Takes appropriate corrective action.
  7. Maintains and services all electrical equipment. 
  8. Works on energized, equipment (when necessary) using OSHA approved safety equipment and guidelines.
  9. Works with voltage and current of any level, AC or DC.
  10. Performs all work with guidelines of Merck and NEC.
  11. Develops and performs on job modifications of electrical equipment.
  12. Estimate and layout jobs and list bill of materials for job.
  13. Attend and actively participates in HAZOPS, waste walkthroughs, Kaizen events, or any other operations, lean six-sigma, quality, safety or environmental training/initiatives, as required.
  14. Prepares and assists technicians, supervisors and planners in preparing labor and material estimates.
  15. Assists supervision with the assigning, scheduling and prioritization of work order requests using maintenance management systems.
  16. Makes recommendations and prepares orders for spare parts, additional stock room items, tools, etc. 
  17. Consults with Supervision and other mechanics on problem resolution/troubleshooting. Keeps Supervision informed of problem issues.

Education Minimum Requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent. Graduation from a recognized electrical trade school, or completion of a formal electrician apprentice program.

Required Experience and Skills:
  • Three years of a recent full time experience as a journeymen electrician, or the completion of at least four years of on the job training as part of a formal apprentice program.

Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • Extensive experience with automatic and automated packaging equipment in the drug or food processing industries.
