Merck’s success is backed by ethical integrity, forward momentum, and an inspiring mission to achieve new milestones in global healthcare. The Durham Varicella Bulk Facility (VBF) Maintenance organization is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Maintenance Coordinator.  This individual will be responsible for supporting maintenance activities through creating, printing, reviewing and archiving maintenance documentation, such as Work Orders, Out of Tolerance Reports and System Metrics.  The successful candidate must be proficient in Enterprise Resource Planning software (ERP) and will be responsbile for reviewing and updating information in the maintenance ERP system.     The Maintenance Coordinator will also support the day-to-day activities of the Maintenance Engineers and Maintenance Technicians.

 Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintain and coordinate documentation as required by the manufacturing facility, such as Preventative Maintenance, Calibration Records and other documentation activities as required, including document retention
  • Review work orders for GMP, documentation compliance and data integrity in SAP
  • Adjust equipment task lists, spare parts, frequencies and information as appropriate based on trends, approved changes, and/or business requirements through completing Change Control documentation and updating information in SAP
  • Work with vendors to coordinate the external maintenance and calibration of equipment, maintenance of standards and gather quotes and information for replacement parts.
  • Continuously improve work processes and team structure to meet customer needs
  • Coordinates a variety of activities for the purpose of ensuring availability of facilities, equipment and personnel; and that services are implemented and maintained efficiently and effectively in conformance with established policies and guidelines
  • Responds to inquiries from a wide variety of internal and external parties for the purpose of taking appropriate action or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution 
  • Support internal, divisional and regulatory audits
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit


Education Minimum Requirement: 
  • A minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent is required for this position.
Required Experience and Skills**: 
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with Enterprise Resource Planning Software
  • Experience working with SAP systems
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.) 
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in an integrated process team
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • Experience in pharmecuetical manufacturing within cGMP environment
  • Experience with Change Control Management
