Under the guidance of the Finance Director for Biologics & Vaccine Development the position is responsible for partnering with the business to establish an aligned, operational vision and mission within the Merck Protein Sciences organization. The position will support the V.P. of Protein Sciences and his team through the development of strategic, operational and financial plans and establish the capability to deploy resources to critical business drivers, including annual functional objectives and the long term strategic goals. 


Responsibilities include: 

•Supporting the monthly close and related activities 

•Developing accurate Budgets, Forecasts and Long-Range expense and capital plans to support the areas strategic and operational goals 

•Building sustainable financial processes to support the group; integrating tools from the rest of Merck Research Laboratories Financial Services 

•Working with Functional leadership to create, monitor and cascade performance objectives into functional areas 

•Participating as a member of the Protein Sciences Leadership Team and providing financial and business support to the team 

•Assuring alignment and integration with other support functional groups (e.g. Global Facilities Management, IT) into Functional plans to ensure realization of the stated strategic intent 

•Providing ad hoc analysis and support to Protein Sciences, Finance and Merck Research Laboratory Divisional change initiatives 


Education Minimum Requirement: •Bachelors in Business, Finance, Accounting, Engineering or Science
Required Experience and Skills: •Minimum of 5 years of operational or finance experience
Preferred Experience and Skills:•CPA, MBA or other Master/PhD in Business, Finance, Science or Engineering•Work experience in Pharmaceutical or related industry; preferably in research •Experience in a Financial Planning & Reporting role•Experience successfully partnering with senior management/executive leadership at business unit level•Excellent verbal and written communication skills•Ability to provide strategic direction for business operations models•Strong financial acumen•Demonstrated ability to develop, evaluate, organize, direct and deliver on operational objectives in the areas of planning, finance and metric setting leading continuous operational improvement•Proactive approach to problem solving•Results and process-driven orientation•Proven track record in driving large organizational change initiatives•Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to influence, ability to build internal and external relationships; proven negotiation skills •Sound and balanced judgment; able to asses and handle risks; decisive
