The position will be a part of the Process Development group within the Technical Operations Department and will be a part of a team that supports various bioprocesses across the plant site including biologics and vaccine manufacturing.  The candidate should have knowledge of microbial fermentation, standard biochemical purification techniques and an ability to quickly adapt and respond to customer needs and challenges. 


The successful candidate will have the opportunity to: 

  • Develop and optimize biologics and/or vaccine processes for in-line and network products
  • Support laboratory scale process characterization studies for future products
  • Employ strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Write and review technical documents, including regulatory filings
  • Work both independently and within multidisciplinary teams including scientists, engineers and site leaders. 
  • Produce high quality work against firm deadlines
  • Maintain excellence of compliance with safety and environmental regulations

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant scientific discipline and a minimum of six (6) years of laboratory and/or industry experience
  • Master of Science degree in a relevant scientific discipline and a minimum of four (4) years of laboratory and/or industry experience 
  • PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemical Engineering)  and laboratory and/or industry experience

Required:

  • Experience working with laboratory and/or pilot scale downstream process unit opertions including chromatography (AKTA/Unicorn), filtration, enzymatic digestion and protein crystallization
  • Experience leading technical investigations in manufacturing and/or laboratory settings
  • Experience in the development and scale up of Biologics manufacturing processes
  • Experience authoring and/or reviewing regulatory filings for Biologics and supporting regulatory inspections

Preferred:

  • Experience with process validation (biologics and/or vaccines) and cleaning validation
  • Experience working with Empower, DeltaV, and PI ProcessBook
  • Experience conducting laboratory scale process characterization studies leveraging Design of Experiments (DoE) design
  • Experience trouble shooting technical issues
  • Experience with change control
