Essential function(s) includes, but is not limited to: 

As a member of the Plant Engineering Technical Services Department, the WPMS System Engineer’s  primary role focuses on supporting  the department as the system administrator  for a critical alarm monitoring system.  The system administrator will be responsible for maintenance, configuration, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of computer systems and supporting infrastructure related to this system.   This role will be working with command center console operators, end users from various business areas, maintenance staff, reliability engineers, corporate IT and contractors  to ensure that equipment and systems are maintained or updated to be within corporate requirements and industry best practices and provide reliable, secure performance within budget constrains . This position will be responsible for mananging various pieces of IT surrounding this system from Database administration, Security, Network, Web –based applications, and backup/ recovery.  They will also be responsible for ensuring modification to the system follow proper change control and documentation.  

The primary activities include and are not limited to the following:

• Creates, edits and manages policies and procedures related to the administration of assigned systems. Ensures system documentation is maintained  to be accurate and in compliance with Merck policy.   

• Develop and implement systems diagnostics and maintenance tools to ensure the availability and functionality of systems required to support organizational objectives.

• Manage the installation of software and hardware, systems fixes, updates and enhancement, account administration. 

• Optimize the functionality of networks and systems, diagnoses and recovers failed systems.

• Participate in cyber security related initiatives as directed including backups testing and Disaster Recovery planning and testing.

• Act as single point of contact for internal customers requesting additions and changes to the system or data retrieved from the system. Coordinates, creates and retains all submittal requests associated with the system.

• Develop and implement alarm managment program for all alarms defined in the system. Identifies and maintains a list of owners and sends out an annual reminder to update contacts.

• Assist in developing master plan for assigned system.

• Directs the work activities and priorities of supporting vendors, directly or through the designated vendor contract manager as required. Audits vendors supporting field maintenance of the system. 

• Coordinates and approves Engineering changes done on existing and new site systems to communicate with the WPMS system and it’s components.

Education Minimum Requirement:

• Bachelor’s of Science degree in a field of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.

Required Experience and Skills**:

• Minimum 5 yrs experience  with systems to include:  Windows Server, Active Directory,  Microsoft Office, Microsoft Internet Information Server, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle DBA.

•Functional knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol suite including IP, TCP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, WINS, HTTP, SMTP, ARP, SNMP, switching and routing, diagnostic use of Wireshark, 802.1x authentication, wireless protocols.

•Minimum 2 yr  experience with OPC DA, HDA, UA.

•Minimum of 2 year experience perfomring troubleshooting and root cause analysis of system disruptions and failures.


Preferred Experience and Skills:

•Experience with OSI PI

•Experience with Computer Aided Dispatching

•Experience with 21 CFR Part 11 Compliance

•Experience with programming.

•Experience developing Job Plans, Preventative Maintenance and Predictive Maintenance Plans. 

•Experience in performing incident/ near miss investigations, troubleshooting and root cause analysis.

•Experience with Merck SDLC

•Experience in coordinating work with Merck Union craft and operators

•Experience in facilitating alarm rationalization and familiarity with ISA18.2

•Experience managing budgets.

•Relevant professional experience supporting pharmaceutical industry, including manufacturing, research labs, pilot plant and utilities operations .
