Biologics Discovery of MRL in Boston is seeking an experienced leader to develop and implement automation and high-throughput approaches to protein therapeutics discovery. The Principal Scientist, Protein Technologies will apply an industrialized approach to develop a robust high-throughput platform for exploring protein diversity.  S/he will be responsible for defining and implementing centralized workflow and data management for a platform spanning cloning, protein expression, purification and analysis.  

S/he will implement automation as appropriate to enhance capabilities.The platform will be a complement and central resource to existing capabilities and will serve as a means to expand the ability to interrogate protein diversity in order to identify optimal leads.This leader will be an effective collaborator who will leverage high-throughput capabilities across disciplines and functional areas.  S/he will identify and actively pursue opportunities to utilize these capabilities in discovery biology.



  • BS with 14+ years; MS with 10+ years; PhD with 8+ years in a relevant field.


  • Proven track record in developing and applying high-throughput approaches in the protein sciences.  
  • The candidate should understand when and where such approaches are valuable and appropriate.  
  • A demonstrated ability to derive value from unique capabilities.
  • A highly-collaborative scientist with broad interests and a diverse technical background.  
  • An ability to work across disciplines and understand the specific needs of clients and collaborators.  
  • Flexibility of approach while maintaining quality and robustness are essential.
  • Technical innovator with a focus on robust utility that meets the needs of clients.  
  • An ability to effectively integrate automation into workflows.
  • An ability to bridge molecular biology, cell biology, protein expression/purification and protein analysis through understanding of key technical issues and interfaces.  
  • Strong familiarity with database design and its application to pipeline workflows.


  • Application of high-throughput protein technologies to protein engineering and structure-based design.
  • Familiarity with protein evolution technologies
  • Application of protein diversity to target identification and validation activities
