We seek a motivated team-oriented structural biologist/modeler to join our protein engineering group to join a dynamic new structural biology group at the Lilly Biotech Center in San Diego. This group is taking full advantage of structure determination by X-ray crystallography and structure modeling to guide discovery and engineering of macromolecules for therapeutic use. In this role, you will work collaboratively to enable structure-based design using Rosetta software and facilitate structure determination by designing and producing proteins for crystallography. Responsibilities you will encounter in this role include:
  • Support structure-based design activities such as improving protein stability or modifying protein-protein interactions.
  • Assist engineering teams with computational design of focused, productive libraries for high throughput screening.
  • Provide structural biology support to diverse project teams: identification of relevant structures, homology modeling, and development of crystallization strategies.
  • Design proteins specifically for crystallization.
  • Supervise a molecular biologist performing cloning and binding analysis.
  • Structure analysis and assist in development of algorithms to predict antibody biophysical properties.

Basic Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Computational Biology, or related field.
  • Extensive utilization of Rosetta for protein structure prediction and protein engineering/design

Additional Skills/Preferences
  • Demonstrated experimental success applying computational methods to protein design or engineering challenges.
  • Familiarity with adapting structure designs to experimental testing.
  • Wet lab experience in molecular biology or protein chemistry.
  • Molecular biology experience - cloning, sequence analysis, and library construction.
  • Protein Chemistry - Biophysical characterization, binding analysis, and functional assays.
  • Familiarity with strategies for protein crystallization and structure determination.
  • Programming/Scripting to support complex modeling tasks.
  • Excellent written and oral skills.
