Chief Scientific Officer

Cure JM Foundation

The Cure JM Foundation is seeking its first Scientific Officer to provide strategic oversight, guidance, and leadership to the Cure JM research program.  The CSO is responsible for the timely and effective implementation of the Cure JM Research Priorities as adopted by the board of directors, principally through a grants program supporting basic, translational, and clinical research and Cure JM-funded Centers of Excellence.

The Cure JM Foundation was founded in 2003 and has invested more than $14 million in juvenile myositis research and clinical care.  Cure JM currently funds three JM Centers of Excellence and an expanding portfolio of research grants.

The CSO serves as Cure JM’s science, research, and medical leader, proactively driving the growth and effectiveness of a grants and clinical research program with ambitious timelines to develop improved treatments for children and adults living with juvenile myositis.

The position reports to the Executive Director and supervises a shared administrative assistant.

The CSO:

  • Creates, fosters, and accelerates collaboration among the international research community not only in juvenile myositis research but also with related autoimmune research where discoveries may have value to the understanding and treatment of JM.
  • Accelerates progress in pre-translational and translational research leading to more clinical trials, in part through effective collaboration with companies with an expressed interest in drug development or repurposing for JM treatments.

·         Serves as principal liaison to Cure JM’s Medical Advisory Board to maximizing the value of the MAB’s medical and research expertise.

·         Oversees the Cure JM grant and fellowship selection process, which includes coordination and scoring of grant applications by the Scientific Review Committee.

·         Serves as a resource to families through comprehensive knowledge of JM clinical care and ability to connect families with leading JM specialists throughout the U.S. and internationally.

·         Serves as the lead facilitator in the creation or expansion of collaborative relationships with federal research or oversight agencies, especially the NIH and FDA.

·         Serves as the scientific spokesperson and thought leader for Cure JM, often in collaboration with the Medical Advisory Board.

Requirements:

·         M.D. or Ph.D. in Biological Science or related sciences.

·         10 years post-degree experience in disease research or drug development within a major research institution, medical research organization, or private industry, preferably in rheumatology and/or autoimmunity.

The selection committee will consider candidates interested a full or part-time position (minimum 20 hours per week).   For further information and a complete position description, please contact:
