Food Animal Business Unit (FABU) Commercial Finance Business Partner 

  • Acts as a business partner to the Food Animal Business Unit including the FABU Lead, as well as the leads of the Ruminant, Swine, Poultry and Aqua Species units and their sales and marketing teams 
  • Prepare financial summary reports on key financial indicators such as Sales performance, volume and price evolution, Gross Margin development, Profit and Loss by Species segment and by Franchise. Lead and / or participate in price control and pricing strategy 
  • Actively lead the planning and forecasting process. Support Species Business Units (Ruminant, Swine, Poultry, Aqua) in developing operational expense budgets and regularly analyze and communicate performance of actual spend against the budget / forecast. 
  • Coordinate the 5-Year Plan Process linking US Commercial Operations with the Global Marketing and facilitate forecasting of new products over the five year plan period. 
  • Participate in and Support as required the US Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process. 
  • Actively partner with the species marketing teams to develop promotion/rebate programs and assist in the development of financial feasibility analyses of such programs. 
  • Partner with the species teams on pricing proposals, contract assessment and review to ensure appropriate profitability and adherence to the Merck Animal Health global pricing policies.
Management Reporting 

  • Oversee and to understand the financials of the Food Animal Business Unit (FABU) consisting of Ruminant, Swine, Poultry and Aqua species segments. To provide comprehensive analysis on timely basis along with executive summaries for the FABU Leadership Team and N. America Executive Director of FP&A. 
  • Responsible for analyzing Profit and Loss for the Food Animal Business Unit and the variances vs. plan / forecast and the previous years. Responsible for conducting a detailed analysis of Sales, margins, prices, operating contribution etc. 
  • Actively lead, participate and coordinate budgeting and forecasting process along with the 5-Year Plan. Develop Planning and Forecasting guidance for US FABU. Analyze and brief FABU Lead and Executive Director, N. America FP&A on Actual Results, Budget and Forecast financials. 
  • Provide (and / or maintain) Business Unit Financial Scorecards and Key Performance Metrics. Prepare presentations and provide critical inputs for various meetings and discussions of US Commercial Operations senior management 
  • Needs to develop a good understanding of the US Animal Health business and should keep track of, analyze and compare the financials and market performance of the competitors as and when published vs. Merck Animal Health.
Financial Operations, Audit and Compliance 

  • Prepare financial entries as part of the month-end close process including working with Commercial Operations business partners and the Business Support Center in Costa Rica to track and prepare monthly accruals in accordance with company determined thresholds. 
  • Support the bi-annual audits performed by Merck’s Corp. Audit Function as part of the annual S404 process and the external audits performed by the external auditors (PricewaterhouseCoopers; PwC). 
  • Serve as the Business Compliance support for FABU, reviewing meetings, sponsorships and other business items to ensure adherence to Merck’s compliance principles.
Business Development Finance Partner 

  • Provide financial support to Commercial Operations and the AH Business Development team in analyzing and evaluating proposed acquisitions, divestitures, licensing, co-promotion arrangements, and other potential strategic investments 
    • Gather data, develop models, and analyze financial results. 
    • Work with Marketing, Manufacturing and R&D to understand inputs, as well as interface with project leaders from Business Development.
    • Estimate the financial impact on the Company under various scenarios and deal structures. 
    • Analyze complex business situations by identifying and focusing on critical variables and assumptions. 
  • Develop materials to communicate results to financial and non-financial management. 
  • Assist with the operational and financial integration efforts of new business development opportunities into the Merck Animal Health and the financial systems and reporting processes.

Education Minimum Requirement: 

  • Required – BA/BS 
  • Preferred – MBA/CPA
Required Experience and Skills: 

  • Minimum of (7) years of experience required; Finance/Accounting preferred. 
  • Collaborate with and influence senior leaders in the organization 
  • Strong Financial and business acumen 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to operate independently 
  • Balance strategic vision with practical implementation 
  • Synthesize data and visualize in executive presentations

Preferred Experience and Skills: 

  • Prior Animal Health industry experience is a plus but not a must. 
  • Strong learning orientation and intellectual curiosity is required
