Description:

The Manufacturing IT/Automation lead will work as a member of the Merck Animal Health (AH) IT Manufacturing and Supply Chain team. The lead will be responsible for modernization of core Shopfloor systems to provide better standardization and resiliency in our AH Manufacturing Sites, to drive business strategies and analytics. This includes the digitization and automation of solutions like Data Historians, Process Control and Automation systems, as well as Plant and Facilities Management solutions. This position will also be responsible for ensuring the operational integrity of the solutions, including systems life cycle methodology documents, Standard Operating Procedures, change management and data integrity.

This position will work closely with various project implementation teams that include Platform Leads, Automation Engineers and Architecture and Infrastructure teams for overall solution implementation. The candidate must also be able to function independently and have excellent communication skills while being accountable for quality of work product and on-time delivery.

Day to day activities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Leadership - Responsible to design and implement strategic, aligned and compliant solutions to support business initiatives. Support the leadership vision, strategy and policy for building a high performance engagement model with the business units.
  • Relationships - Build exceptional relationships with stakeholders which are focused on meeting the business needs.
  • Global - Ensure that the solutions are aligned with AHIT platforms and support Merck AH/MMD strategy.

  • Develop domain expertise in key Supply Chain and Manufacturing business processes, systems, and data.
  • Coordinate standardization of data historian implementation, aligned with both the deployment of new or upgraded manufacturing assets and the retrofit of integration with existing automated assets.
  • Align with sites to implement modernization projects as part of a broader AH Resiliency program based on approved scope and timeline.
  • Applying standard systems life cycle and other IT processes/methods, practices and techniques to deliver process integration solutions.
    Build strong partnerships with platform groups, IT Hubs, and others in support of Resiliency and Modernization objectives
Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor degree or higher in software engineering, computer science or related field
Required:

  • At minimum 3 years of related work experience with demonstrated ability to deliver IT solutions.
  • 1-2 years relevant work experience with Manufacturing/Supply Chain IT Platform areas or other Divisional IT area.
  • Good understanding of Shopfloor systems like data historians and related tools and capabilities.
Preferred:

  • SAP ECC and OSIsoft PI knowledge.
  • Eagerness and high energy to observe Merck’s leadership behaviors, especially Network leadership and a Culture of collaboration.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with interfacing to manufacturing automation systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new opportunities & build/justify business cases.
  • Excellent communicating skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to work in a global matrix organization spanning multiple geographic regions.
  • A team player who places great emphasis on collective achievements and team diversity.
  • Ability to engage with software vendors and third party solutions integrators.
  • Experience with Systems Development Lifecycle Methodology (SDLC).
  • Experience with implementing solutions in GxP regulated environment.
