Postdoctoral Scholar in World-class Transplantation and Tumor Immunology Lab
The Laboratory of Dr. Xue-Zhong Yu, with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), invites applicants for a Postdoctoral Scholar Position in the NCI Designated Hollings Cancer Center (HCC) and the Department of Microbiology & Immunology (M&I). The Postdoc will join Dr. Yu’s group of successful scientists in designing and conducting independent projects in basic and translational research in Transplantation and Tumor Immunology. These studies will be conducted primarily in murine models in vitro and in vivo, using immunological, molecular biological and biochemical techniques. Ultimately, the Postdoc will add to the Yu Lab’s understanding of the mechanisms of peripheral T-cell activation and tolerance in response to alloantigen and tumor after allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation (HCT); S/he will engage in career development activities (giving progress reports, writing protocols and manuscripts, developing new research project and proposals, and participating other scientific events); finally, s/he will contribute to routine lab operation, collaborate with other lab members, and provide guidance to other researchers in the lab as needed.
A PhD degree in relevant field is required and a strong background in immunology is preferred. Ability in initiating, conducting, evaluating and reporting of research studies is essential. Experience with tissue culture, western blotting, molecular biologic methodologies, flow cytometry, and procedures on mice is vital. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
MUSC is located in historic Charleston, SC. The weather is beautiful year-round, with temperatures rarely dropping below freezing during winter. There are several beaches within minutes of the city and the mountains are only three hours away. In addition to these amenities, the art, history, food, and festivals make Charleston a fantastic place to live.
