As a member of the Network Engineering team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the development and design of Merck & Co., Inc’s Global Data Network with a primary focus on Data Center Network Design. This role requires a highly skilled individual with subject matter expertise in Data Center Network Architectures and Software Defined Networking (SDN) Solutions. The candidate must interface globally and have deep experience in the design, development and support of global network solutions. The position's basic functions and responsibility include

Primary job responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop and evolve Global Data Center Network Design.
  • Architect and Introduce Next Generation Network Solutions.
  • Provide Tier-4 expert support of MSD’s Global Network.
  • The individual must have the technical and leadership skills to engineer and deliver these services worldwide.


  • Bachelors degree preferred ;  OR  minimum 7 years relevant work experience


  • Minimum of five (5) years in Network Engineering/Operations.
  • Expert knowledge with Network Infrastructure and Design.
  • Expert knowledge building and support Data Center Network Architectures.
  • Expert knowledge of Software Defined Networking (SDN) Solutions.
  • Expert knowledge and expertise with Network Routing and protocols.
  • Deep knowledge and expertise with Cisco Switching and Routing environments.
  • Ability to continually acquire new skills.
  • Ability to accomplish objectives while working collectively with the Global team, IT divisional teams, country IT departments and business teams.
  • Demonstrates both tactical as well as strategic thinking and creative problem solving.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communications skills.
  • Good negotiation and presentation skills.


  • Deep knowledge of Cisco ACI Technology.
  • Deep knowledge of VMware NSX Solutions.
  • Experience with scripting, DevOps tools, and markup languages (e.g. Python, GitHub, Confluence, XML/JSON/YAML, etc.)
  • Industry recognized certifications such as CCIE.
