Saarland University is a campus-based university with international focus and pronounced research-oriented profile. The numerous associated research institutions and the strategic emphasis on business start-ups turn Saarland University into an ideal environment for innovation and technology transfer.

The Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology at Saarland University seeks to fill two Professorships in the field of Polymer Sciences (Polymer Materials and Polymer Chemistry) with an anticipated starting date in October 2019. The successful candidates shall be internationally renowned scientists and are expected to fully represent their respective fields in research and teaching:

Department of Chemistry

W3-Professorship in Polymer Chemistry (reference W1351)

The research focus will be on the development and the synthesis of adaptive and/or stimuli-responsive organic polymers. In teaching, Organic Macromolecular Chemistry and the core subject Organic Chemistry shall be covered in the Bachelor- and Master-Degree Programmes of the department as well as in the interdisciplinary Master Programme in Materials Chemistry.

Participation in the international degree courses of the respective departments is expected. The commitment to existing and/or the initiation of new joint research programmes of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology as well as the collaboration with non-university research institutions at Saarbrücken is desirable.

At Saarland University, we view internationalization as a process that spans all aspects of University life. We therefore expect members of our professorial staff to engage in activities that promote and foster further internationalization and to be willing to teach in a foreign language (particularly in English). Particular support is offered to cooperative projects with partners within the Saar-Lor-Lux region as part of the ‘University of the Greater Region’ (www.uni-gr.eu).

Aside from standards set by general employment legislation, eligibility criteria include a University Degree in the corresponding or a related field, educational skills, proven aptness for original scientific work (usually documented by the quality of the doctorate or PhD) as well as a track record of past independent research (e.g. in a habilitation, assistant professorship or equivalent). Original publications in leading journals, the documented acquisition of third-party funding as well as experience in staff management, academic administration and (documented) international mobility are viewed favourably.
