The student will have a unique opportunity to gain valuable bioanalytical experience in our newly completed metabolomics laboratory, using state-of-the-art liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry (LC/MS) instruments. The goal is for the student to become familiar with supporting both Targeted and Untargeted metabolomics experiments. The student is expected to work together with their mentor, and to assist the Bioactive Discovery team generate data for building a searchable human microbiome LC/MS database for dozens of metabolite compounds. This position is well suited for a detail oriented individual, who enjoys being in the laboratory; analyzes samples, records laboratory results in an Electronic Laboratory Notebook, follows safe laboratory practices, and has some prior experience weighing compounds, making solutions and calculating concentrations.  



  • Candidates must be currently enrolled as a rising senior (preferred), or junior, working on Bachelor, or Master, of Science degree in Biochemistry or related field
  • Candidates must have completed college level general chemistry, analytical chemistry, and biochemistry courses
Required Experience:
  • Candidates must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Preferred Experience:
  • Previous experience using chromatographic techniques and/or mass spectrometry is a plus
  • Familiarity with basic statistics and/or programming language such as R, Python
