Who we are:

Calico is a research and development company whose mission is to harness advanced technologies to increase our understanding of the biology that controls lifespan. We will use that knowledge to devise interventions that enable people to lead longer and healthier lives. Executing on this mission will require an unprecedented level of interdisciplinary effort and a long-term focus for which funding is already in place.

Position description:

Calico is inviting applications from cell biologists and cell-biologically skilled geneticists interested in understanding how the germ lineage can be immortal, and whether mechanisms that underlie germline immortality can slow or even reverse the somatic aging process.  We are particularly interested in candidates who think deeply, broadly and imaginatively, have a mastery of cell biology, microscopy, genetics and molecular biology, and who have a real curiosity about molecular mechanisms that control the rate of aging. The lab is innovative, fun, thoughtful and intense, and kind.  Motivation, curiosity, love of science and discovery, intelligence, and an ability to think out-of-the box are all highly valued.

Position requirements:

Applicants must have a Ph.D. and a completed postdoc or 3+ years of additional, relevant experience, with a strong track record of research productivity as evidenced by high-quality, impactful publications. You need to be an enthusiastic and generous team player, a rigorous, quantitative, detail-oriented experimentalist, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience with yeast, worms or flies would be great (but not essential). Computational skills are desirable as well.
