The University of Manitoba invites expressions of interest, nominations, and applications for the position of Dean, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences.
Established in 1906, the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences continues to be an international leader in the agri-food industry. Its high standard of excellence in both teaching and research are demonstrated by the strength of its programs, the success of its research funding, and breadth of its research impacts. Today, the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences is well respected across Canada and globally for its scientific performance. High-caliber programs are offered to more than 1,200 students at the diploma, undergraduate, and graduate levels. Innovative research is nurtured by their state-of-the-art facilities both on and off campus, through their four Research Centres and through strong partnerships with government and industry.
Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), the Dean is a member of the University’s senior leadership team and is responsible for the academic and administrative leadership of the Faculty. The successful candidate will be innovative and visionary, possessing the correct combination of skills and experience to steer the Faculty toward realizing its vision “To nourish the World, without costing the Earth”. To this end, the Faculty boasts a remarkable research enterprise and facilities, and the Dean will inspire, guide and support the Faculty in continuing to generate leading-edge research and results that directly impact the provincial economy and beyond. Holding an outstanding personal research record, the incumbent will be highly respected and will have developed an extensive list of contacts within industry and government who enthusiastically endorse their work and leadership. The Dean will also bring an appreciation of the dynamic environment of the University, the Faculty and the agri-food sector as a whole. With this, the successful candidate will possess the ability to lead and manage change in a collaborative manner, understanding the challenges that face a multidisciplinary Faculty. It is through informed decision making and a global perspective that the Dean will ensure that Faculty programs and services best meet the needs of a growing student population.
