Merck’s success is backed by ethical integrity, forward momentum, and an inspiring mission to achieve new milestones in global healthcare. The Pilot operates jet aircraft in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with the Company aircraft schedule, operational directives and in accordance with International, Federal, State and Local laws and regulations; as well as the Company Flight Operations Manual.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
  • Ensures that pre-flight duties are performed including aircraft inspection, accessing weather conditions, flight planning, aircraft cleanliness and provisions status, computing weight & balance and determining fuel load. 
  • Acts as Pilot-in-Command or Second-in-Command in specific aircraft. 
  • Completes other supplemental duties within the department, as assigned by the Chief Pilot. 
  • Supervises Second-in-Command when assigned as Pilot-in-Command. 
  • Effectively utilizes the principles of Crew Resource Management to operate high performance aircraft in the highest levels of safety and efficiency. 
  • Makes decisions necessary for the start, delay, or cancellation of assigned flights and for the deviation of a flight from its planned route or destination when conditions dictate. 
  • Maintains required pilot and medical certificates. 
  • Completes all training necessary for performance of assigned duties and as dictated within the Company Flight Operations Manual.
NOTE: This role requires working a flexible schedule that will include overnight and weekend duty to satisfy the requirements of the on demand nature of a global corporate aviation operation.  

Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
Required Experience and Skills: 

  • Minimum of 5 years Aviation related experience with a minimum of two years in an on-demand flight environment 
  • FAA ATP certificate with the ability to obtain appropriate type ratings 
  • History of successful completion of FAA and Company competency checks 
  • Ability to maintain FAA First Class medical certificate 
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
Preferred Experience and Skills: 

  • Experience in an on-demand corporate flight department setting. 
  • Flight qualifications: 
    • 3,000 hours total flight time 
    • 1,000 hours Pilot-in-Command time 
    • 500 hours turbine aircraft flight time
