The Merck Manufacturing Leadership Development Program has two primary goals: 
  • Provide entry level candidates who have Bachelor’s or Master’s degree level in the required fields listed below with a broad perspective of the core manufacturing functions of Merck's pharmaceutical, biological, animal health and vaccine products; specifically focused on one of the following tracks: business, operations, or technical.
  • Develop a bench of emerging talent who can prepare for future leadership positions of increasing responsibility within the organization through focused rotational experiences within the key areas of Merck Manufacturing Division (MMD). 
The program is broken up into three different tracks; Business, Operations, and Technical. Technical Track
  • Strong technical and leadership capabilities in process development or technical support able to drive technical solutions
  • Grounding in compliance systems for RFT process development mindset
  • Specific developmental experiences across:
  • Operations support
  • Process development
  • Above-site functions (tech ops [including global/external], development, or GES
  • Operations Track
  • Strong operations knowledge and leadership capabilities able to lead shift operations
  • Grounding in compliance systems for safety and quality focus in operations
  • Specific developmental experiences across:
  • Operations support
  • Operations supervision
  • Support systems
  •   Business Track
  • Strong knowledge of end-to-end supply chain and leadership capabilities able to analyze business processes to drive results
  • Grounding in compliance systems for effective planning and partnerships
  • Specific developmental experiences across several business areas.
  • Operations support
  • Supply Chain Management (SCM)
  • Merck Production System (MPS, lean)
  •  The tracks are designed to enable the candidate to experience many of the critical roles and responsibilities of the given area. The LDP program enables successful candidates to experience 3 rotations over a three year period with each rotation lasting one year. Each candidate will be on a track for the duration of the program, enabling diverse experiences within a given track, resulting in a depth of knowledge at the end of the program. The rotations are aligned to critical business needs in the division across sites, for domestic and/ or international assignments. Because business priorities are assessed before each round of rotations, the available rotations may require a change in location where program participants relocate to other US or non-US locations during the span of their 3-year rotation at each rotation offering. It is expected that a candidate move between sites during the program, as that allows the employee to gain the broadest perspective of the division and to maximize learning and exposure. Rotations can be in areas such as (but not limited to) the following: 
  • Small and Large Molecule
  • Vaccines
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Biologics
  • Quality
  • Global Science Technology and Commercialization
  • Animal Health
  • External Manufacturing
  • Business Development
  • Global Safety & Environment
  •  Employees are assigned to rotations based on business needs and aligned to develop experiences critical to their track.  In addition to their assignments employees receive mentoring from peers and senior leaders during their assignment. Rotation members should expect to work at different domestic or international sites during their tenure in the program, and should have flexibility to move where assigned to meet business needs. Within the rotation, some domestic and international travel may be required.  International rotation assignments or travel are not guaranteed. POTENTIAL ROTATION LOCATIONS:  West Point, PA; Danville, PA; Elkton, VA; Durham, NC; Wilson, NC; Millsboro, DE; Whitehouse Station, NJ; Rahway, NJ; Kenilworth, NJ. Additional sites may be considered within the US or outside the US based on business needs. In addition to the rotations, candidates will participate in process improvement projects, sponsored by Manufacturing Leadership Team.  This will strengthen the candidates' skills in teamwork, collaboration, and leadership.  The program also includes a formal learning curriculum, designed to enhance a wide variety of skills including but not limited to: 
  • Business outcomes across the end to end supply chain
  • Continuous improvement/Scientific problem solving
  • Managing and Optimizing internal and external partnerships
  • Lean Manufacturing
  • Quality/Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
  • Business and Technical Acumen
  • .The successful candidate is: 
  • Interested in participating in a broad range of work experiences across the manufacturing division.
  • Is comfortable working independently, working in teams, and leading teams.
  • The candidate will need to be able to adapt to new roles, responsibilities, and situations.
  • An individual motivated to cultivate their leadership skills along with their technical, business and commercial skills by applying their knowledge within manufacturing.
  • Is committed to both their own career development as well as bringing their best to Merck.
  • The successful candidate should be comfortable with influencing others
  •  CANDIDATES WILL BE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE A PRE-INTERVIEW ONLINE ASSESSMENT, WHICH WILL TAKE 90 MINUTES TO COMPLETE.  CANDIDATES WILL NEED TO COMPLETE THIS ASSESSMENT WITHIN 3 DAYS OF RECEIPT. Candidates will be assessed before and during the interview for leadership skills. Upon completion of the program, candidates will interview for a full-time role within Merck based upon acquired skills and business need across the division.  Qualifications

    Required: Education- BS or MS in one of the following:
    • Bio Engineering
    • Biochemistry/Biological Chemistry
    • Biology (concentration in but not limited to virology, cell biology, microbiology)
    • Biomedical Engineering
    • Biotechnology
    • Chemical Engineering
    • Chemistry
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Material Science and Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Supply Chain/Logistics

    GPA at least 3.5 overall

     Required Experience:
    • Candidate must be eligible to work in US without sponsorship
    • Ability to travel and willingness to be assigned to any Merck site in the US or other Merck sites including countries ex-US based on business needs

    • Ideal candidate will possess superior communication and interpersonal skills, a team-player with the ability to work independently
    • Ideal candidate demonstrated leadership experience in field of study, extracurricular activity, previous internship or undergraduate research, military or prior work experience
