Instructor/Senior scientist position:

Neurophysiology of Alzheimer's disease

The Jankowsky laboratory at the Baylor College of Medicine has an opening for an experienced electrophysiologist to study circuit plasticity following degeneration of central circuits in mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease.  Successful candidates will join a collaborative team at BCM examining the potential for functional regeneration or restorative plasticity within the CNS in response to progressive neuronal loss.  The position offers the opportunity to learn mouse genetics, viral transgenesis, and behavioral analysis from our group, in return, we seek someone who can bring hippocampal neurophysiology to this and other projects ongoing in the lab.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in neuroscience or a related discipline and be skilled in whole-cell patch clamp and extracellular field potential recordings from acute brain slices, ideally with a background in hippocampal synaptic plasticity.  Successful applicants should be highly self-motivated, have outstanding experimental skills, and be able to think and work independently.  Nevertheless, teamwork is essential to the success of this project, and applicants should be able to communicate effectively and collaborate generously.

This position can be filled at the level of postdoctoral fellow, staff scientist, or instructor, depending on qualifications and candidate preference.  The ideal applicant would be sufficiently advanced to work independently on the design and execution of experiments deciphering mechanisms of circuit plasticity.  The value of this skill set is recognized with compensation up to $70,000/year commensurate with experience and the possibility of promotion to a semi-independent position.
