The Employee and Labor Relations Specialist provides consultation, subject matter expertise, tools and resources to managers of U.S. bargaining and non-bargaining employees on a variety of employment, employee performance and labor relations matters to help facilitate a high performance organization and inclusive work environment. This position works closely with other areas of the HR community, Compliance and Employment Legal in addition to managers and union officials to address business and employee needs and issue resolution. In addition to the below, there is the opportunity to assist with special and cross-functional projects and initiatives.


As an Employee Relations advisor/consultant to managers:

  • Coaches, counsels and guides managers on performance management/improvement and issue/conflict resolution ensuring fair and consistent application
  • Educates managers on policies, procedures, laws and standards both individually and in group/leadership sessions.
  • Facilitates the exit process and responds to Unemployment inquiries 
  • Tracks and analyzes data, identifies trends and makes recommendations for organizational improvements
As a Labor Relations advisor/consultant to managers and union officials:
  • Provides contract interpretation expertise to management, adheres to terms of labor contract by monitoring day-to-day implementation of contract provisions
  • Assists management with investigating, answering and resolving grievances and responding to Requests for Information.
  • Establishes and builds effective relationships with labor unions
  • Provides labor relations support in preparation for and during contract negotiations.
  • Conducts labor relations and positive employee relations training

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Labor Relations or related discipline
Required:
  • Minimum of two years HR experience consulting/coaching managers and demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and influence leaders
  • Minimum of one year experience in HR/Labor Relations in a union environment or in a management position involving the direct supervision of union employees, which includes contract administration, grievance process resolution and interfacing with union officials
  • Knowledge of employment legal practices/policies 
  • HR tools and systems capability
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written) and teamwork skills 
 

Preferred:
  • Experience conducting investigation in both union and non-union environments beneficial
  • Experience developing and conducting manager training
  • Metrics and data analytics capability, which includes prior experience analyzing, interpreting and presenting data for the purposes of determining trends and/or recommending solutions 
  • Change Management experience a plus
  • Working within a matrixed organizational structure
