Merck is currently seeking exceptional chemists for positions within the High-Throughput Experimentation and Lead Discovery Capabilities group. The successful candidate will join multidisciplinary, highly collaborative discovery teams to invent novel medicines through a combination of innovative synthetic chemistry and analysis of diverse data sets to build structure-activity relationships. The successful candidate will be expected to generate novel, testable hypotheses to enable clear science driven decision making.
Furthermore, he/she will help identify and validate new targets through chemistry and will be responsible for collaborative engagement with the external scientific community. Success across this spectrum of activities will necessitate the application of the latest advances in chemistry and the development of innovative approaches to address new chemistry challenges. To accomplish the above, the successful candidate must exhibit excellent interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills in a team environment.Qualifications
- Ph.D. in synthetic organic or organometallic chemistry or related field with 4+ years of experience.
- Experience in synthesis, purification and analytical characterization including HPLC, MS, NMR, and biophysical methods.
- Expertise in mechanistic analysis of catalytic reactions.
- Experience in developing and/or applying new catalytic methods to problems in synthesis.
- A proven track record of solving complex problems.
- Experience in computer-aided chemistry or biological SAR design.
- Experience in lab automation.
- Ability to mine scientific literature and databases.
- Ability to train team members in aspects of chemical synthesis.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills in a team environment.
