Postdoc in stem cells and aging
The Harris Lab within the Department of Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham seeks a motivated Postdoctoral Trainee to join their team. The Harris Lab investigates the molecular and genetic mechanisms that influence stem cell maintenance and contribute to stem cell aging. The lab uses cellular, genetic and genomic approaches within the mouse animal model to decipher the gene regulatory networks that govern stem cell fate choice and stem cell quiescence over time. The Harris Lab uses the melanocyte stem cell of the hair follicle as a system to interrogate both autonomous, and non-autonomous contributions to stem cell maintenance. We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher with interest in transcriptional regulation, stem cells and aging. Individuals with experience pertaining to any of these topics are encouraged to apply. The Department of Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is home to a nexus of investigators focused on the basic biology of aging and age-related pathologies using mouse models. It is also home to one of six NIH-supported Nathan Shock Centers of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging. UAB is consistently rated as one of the finest universities in the country for postdoctoral studies.
- Applicants must hold a PhD degree in cell biology, molecular biology, genetics or a related discipline. Experience in chromatin immunoprecipitation, next-generation sequencing and analysis (ChIP-seq, RNA-seq) is desirable.
- Familiarity with pigment cell biology, aging biology, and mouse husbandry is advantageous, but not required.
- The successful candidate should have a proven track record with publications. Strong motivation, good communication skills and the ability to work independently are required.
