As a Digital Marketing & Channels Platform Lead at Merck’s Austin IT HUB, you will be part of inventing tomorrow. Our Innovative centers are where great people come together and deliver solutions that save and improve lives.


We are seeking a strong results oriented Leader who will drive the evolution of the Digital Marketing & Channels Platform enabling MSD commercial markets to drive revenue growth and operational efficiency. This role is critical to the broad success of the Organization’s stated intent to digitally transform to meet the future goals of the enterprise.

The Digital Marketing & Channels (DM&C) Platform Lead role has overall global responsibility for developing and delivering the DM&C Platform to all Global Human Health (GHH) markets and regions. The role is accountable for creating the future vision for Digital Marketing & Channels within GHH, including Platform strategy development, platform design and build, and platform evolution to meet the ongoing needs of the organization. Additionally, the role is responsible for managing the overall costs and value realization of the DM&C Platform. The position works closely with Client Services Directors, IT Country Leads, Technology Hub Teams, and business leadership to understand the business outcomes required from the Platform and direct investments and resources accordingly.


Primary job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Platform strategy development across multiple domains including Websites and Portals, Social Media & Mobility, Marketing Automation, Email, Content and Digital Asset Management, Web & Channel Tracking and Analytics, Identity, Consent & Access Management, and SEO strategy in support of the Commercial Organization.
  • Develop and evolve a long-term vision for the future direction of the DM&C Platform, and drive multi-year platform roadmap of capability enablement and deployments.
  • Drive channel integration across various commercial capabilities to support integrated sales and marketing capabilities.
  • Develop and communicate a clear value proposition for the DM&C Platform for IT and Business Stakeholders.
  • Provide DM&C thought leadership across platforms and divisions.
  • Influence effectively at all levels of the Company and manage change, building and maintaining productive relationships with Executive Sponsors and key Stakeholders at Regional and Global level.
  • In collaboration with internal and external Partners, develop innovative cost effective solutions to further enhance the Platform.
  • Guide continuous improvement efforts for the platform - advancing its maturity.
  • Drive a simplification of technology and systems used to manage channel optimization across various markets and regions.
  • Act as a change agent in evolving the Organization’s channel management platform.
  • Integrate DM&C platform work with other IT platforms.
  • Participates with external organizations to benchmark and share best practice and improve internal procedures to maximize the corporate value capture.
  • Manage strategic relationships with third-party Vendors.
  • Oversight of technical delivery teams, and work across many IT teams to coordinate and implement programs.
  • Manage a team of 5 direct reports and 30+ dotted line reports.
  • Manage a portfolio of ~$25m.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or a related discipline.


  • Minimum of 5 years experience in Digital Marketing and Channels Management and strategy development.
  • Knowledge across multiple DM&C Platform technologies, including Web Content Management Systems, Web & Portal Technologies, Digital Asset Management Systems, Social Media, Marketing Automation, Identity and Access Management, Web Analytics, SEO, Mobile Channels.
  • Experience with building and executing on integrated Digital Marketing channel strategies.
  • Executive management presentation skills.


  • Ability to partner with third party providers to deliver on strategic objectives.
  • Extensive knowledge of Pharmaceutical Sales and Marketing processes (or equivalent industry) - specifically possessing an understanding of regulatory requirements.
  • Harmonization of processes across various stakeholder organizations.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization – have the expertise in the subject and the strong communication skills required ensuring successful engagement with key stakeholders.
  • Socialization and influencing others - in a virtual environment.
  • Experience in managing virtual teams.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Solution architecture background a plus.
  • Staff and resource modeling in a multi-regional, matrix environment.
  • Ability to build a positive work environment that encourages teamwork.
  • Embrace and champion change, foster innovation, focus on the customer, demonstrate courage and collaborate across all divisions.
