The University of Missouri (MU) College of Engineering invites nominations and applications for a tenured faculty position as the AOI Chair in Biosensing. This newly-formed position is an interdisciplinary Chair, funded by a donation from Dr. Thompson Lin and Applied OptoElectronics, Inc. (AOI). The Chair position is for five years and is renewable based on performance. The position's home department is in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Additional appointments in other academic units, such as Bioengineering and the School of Medicine, are possible.
Responsibilities: The AOI Chair will be a visionary individual who will provide leadership and guidance for new programs in the interdisciplinary fields of biomedical sensing and translational research. The AOI Chair will develop a world-class program in noninvasive sensor technology related to biomedicine; modalities can include micro- and nanotechnologies, optoelectronics, photonics, nanophotonics, imaging, or other closely-related areas. The AOI Chair is expected to work closely with multiple departments to assemble interdisciplinary teams to investigate new sensor technologies and applications. The AOI Chair will strengthen the scientific leadership and visibility of interdisciplinary research at MU.
The College of Engineering is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through research, teaching, and service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
The AOI Chair is expected to lead and support external development opportunities; be an advocate for the college; enhance the national and international reputation of the department; establish cooperative opportunities with industry partners including AOI, and mentor faculty at different stages of their career.
Required Qualifications: Qualifications and attributes for the successful candidate include a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, biophysics, biomedical engineering, or a closely associated field. The candidate must have a demonstrated record of excellence in biomedical research or a related field. The candidate must have demonstrated effective leadership, management and communication with faculty, staff, and students as well as other leaders in electrical engineering, biophysics, biomedical, medical device sensor research areas, and technology. The candidate will also have a demonstrated ability to obtain external funding.
Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience.

College of Engineering
The MU College of Engineering (http://engineering.missouri.edu/) includes 9 disciplines and 130 faculty members, 3,319 undergraduates, and 600 graduate students. The College is currently recruiting for 40-50 new faculty in biomedical innovations, big data analytics, and sustainability. The department offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs through the doctoral level.
The College of Engineering is home to numerous research centers, signature programs, and laboratories. Major research strength areas include big data analytics, pattern recognition and machine learning, bioinformatics and medical informatics, cyber security, high-performance computing, image processing and graphics, physical and power electronics, geospatial intelligence, eldercare and rehabilitation technology, nano/micro systems, signal processing, computer vision, and robotics. We also house our own office of Diversity and Outreach Initiatives, an Inclusivity Center, and a Women in Engineering Center.
Areas of strength at MU include a world renowned Veterinary Medicine College on the same campus as an innovative School of Medicine and teaching hospital, an outstanding animal sciences department and a College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources. MU is home to the National Swine Resource and Research Center, which produces transgenic pigs, the National Center for Gender Physiology, and the Dalton Cardiovascular Center, which fosters interdisciplinary research. The University of Missouri Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (MU-iCATS) serves as the focal point for MU programs that transform research findings into solutions for human health issues. The University of Missouri Clinical Research Center facilitates clinical trials (Phase 1 – 4) at the university and serves as a bridge between patient-centered care and biomedical science
