The Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) seeks an inaugural Executive Director of the Brown Center for Immunotherapy. Endowed with a $30 million gift including four endowed chairs, the Executive Director will recruit and lead a team of scientists to improve the application of adult and pediatric cancer cell therapy and pioneer the use of this powerful technology for other diseases. This is an extraordinary opportunity for a visionary scientific thought-leader to develop innovative methods to make this highly specialized therapy more widely accessible to make the greatest impact on patients' lives.

The Indiana University School of Medicine is in an exciting growth phase, increasing research funding by 40% over the last four years and continuing to invest aggressively in research. The Brown Center for Immunotherapy is a key component of Indiana University's bold expansion of research in the area of precision health with a significant infusion of resources and numerous collaborative partners in academia and industry.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Building strategic alignment with Precision Health Initiative goals
  • Championing an ambitious scientific vision for the center
  • Leading the administrative functions of the center including recruitment and budget oversight


  • Endowment of $30 million gift from Dr. Don Brown and additional university funds to support the executive director's research, lab startups, and to recruit new faculty
  • Six GMP rooms and Clinimacs Prodigy
  • Precision immunology laboratory services (PILS) core with state of the art flow cytometric, CYTOF, and imaging flow cytometry
  • A mixed use facility including BSL-3 ISO-7 clean rooms for vector production and cell manufacturing for allogeneic cell product production
  • NIH/NCRR National Gene Vector Biorepository for the NCRR and the lentiviral production site for the NIH/NHLBI Gene Therapy Resources Program

Ample opportunities for research and collaboration, including:

  • IU School of Medicine's Precision Health Initiative, a $120 million investment to place Indiana University at the cutting edge of healthcare
  • The Indiana Collaborative Initiative for Talent Enrichment (INCITE), a $25 million grant from the Lilly Endowment, is a partnership between IU School of Medicine and local, non-academic partners such as the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute, Eli Lilly and Co., Roche, Dow, Cook, BioCrossroads, IU Health and Eskenazi Health to attract top scientists
  • IU Simon Cancer Center, an NCI designated Cancer Center with more than 200 investigators who lead over 600 clinical trials for adult and pediatric cancers

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD or PhD, or MD/PhD or equivalent
  • An extramurally funded research program
  • Academic credentials for a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor
