The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia invites applications for a continuing, 10-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) to begin August 15, 2018. The candidate should have a passion for teaching, a commitment to innovative teaching methods, and demonstrated success in working with undergraduates.  The successful candidate will find that the department is supportive of professional growth and provides opportunities to pursue scholarly research interests and to participate in graduate education.The selected candidate will be primarily responsible for teaching both didactic and laboratory courses including but not limited to General Biology, SEA-PHAGES discovery-based laboratory, Microbial Science, and courses related to the candidate’s area of expertise.   Other expectations include student-advising, service on departmental, college, and university committees as well as engagement in scholarly activity.

Required Qualifications

  • The candidate will have a Ph.D. and have demonstrated teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in Microbial Ecology, Environmental Microbiology, or related fields.

About the Department

The department consists of 18 full-time faculty and 7 staff.  There are ~270 undergraduate majors, divided among BS programs in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Environmental Science, Medical Laboratory Science, and Microbiology.  Approximately 45 full- and part-time graduate students are enrolled in the MS programs in Cell Biology & Biotechnology and the PhD program in Cell & Molecular Biology.  Graduate faculty members may participate in the MS and PhD programs of the departments of Chemistry & Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University as well.
