Professorship in Quaternary Environmental Geosciences
The Department of Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Science, University of Basel invites applications for a professorship in Quaternary Environmental Geosciences (open rank). We are seeking a geoscientist with a strong record of innovative and high-impact research in the broader fields of Quaternary Environmental Geosciences.
The successful candidate will help to further develop and strengthen the division of Geoscience within the Department of Environmental Sciences (http://duw.unibas.ch). Applicants should be able to demonstrate internationally recognized scholarly activities with a strong record of externally funded research. Candidates are expected to investigate links between global biogeochemical fluxes and/or climate dynamics and perturbations at different timescales, preferably in the most recent geological past. The research program may, for example, focus on Pleistocene/Holocene climate change, the coupling between climate change, biogeochemical cycles, and/or the co-evolution of life, landscapes and climate. We welcome applicants with a proven ability to combine geological and geochemical approaches to develop and exploit environmental proxies from terrestrial, marine, or lacustrine records. The successful candidate is expected to complement existing strengths in modern-system environmental geosciences at the University of Basel.
The future professor is expected to teach courses in Geology both at the undergraduate and graduate level, to organise field classes and excursions, and to contribute to the curricula of the BA and MA programs in Geography. Graduate classes may include courses in Climate Geology, Earth History, and/or Paleobiogeochemistry.
