Postdoctoral Fellow in Bioinformatics
Multiple bioinformatics postdoctoral fellow positions are available in Dr. Siyuan Zheng’s lab at the Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute (Greehey CCRI), The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio). Our research is focused on understanding the genome of adult and pediatric cancer. We are particularly interested in the role of telomere and telomerase during malignant transformation. This program is built on our previous publications (Barthel et al. Nat Genet, 2017; Zheng et al. Cancer Cell, 2016) and offers several promising follow-up projects. The candidates will have the opportunity to leverage public resources such as TCGA and TARGET, and will have access to a large collection of in-house genomic data being generated at the Greehey CCRI. Our institute provides a multidisciplinary and collegial academic environment, led by Dr. Peter Houghton, and convenient access to the sequencing core facility. More information about our lab can be found at https://compbiolab.wixsite.com/zheng
Responsibility and Requirements:
The candidates are expected to lead multiple research projects, perform data analysis, report progress in conferences, and write manuscripts. The candidates must have a PhD or MD degree in a related field (bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, genome science). A strong computational background with experience in at least one programing language (e.g. R, Python, Java, Perl) and Linux working environment is required. Experience working with TCGA, ICGC, COSMIC, 1000 Genomes, ENCODE, GTEx, or ExAC, or other large-scale sequencing data analysis is highly preferred. Candidates are also expected to have some basic understanding of cancer biology. One first author publications in peer-reviewed journals are a minimum requirement.
Contact: Interested applicants for postdoc positions should send a cover letter describing past research experience/skills and future research interests/plans, a curriculum vitae and the contact information of three references to Dr. Siyuan Zheng (mailto:ZhengS3@uthscsa.edu).
Consideration of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled.
Salary & Benefits: Salary is commensurate with experience and accomplishments, starting at NIH pay scale. Information about the comprehensive benefits package can be found at http://uthscsa.edu/hr/benefits.asp.
