The Department of Chemistry and Physical Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences seeks applicants for a full-time teaching assistant professor of physical sciences with a focus on earth sciences. The primary duty of teaching faculty is teaching with some service expectations.


This is a 9.5 month position that will begin in August 2018. This appointment is for a one-year duration.

The breadth of programs offered in the College of Arts and Sciences provides the traditional strengths of a liberal arts education, with a focus on cultivating the intellectual and practical skills that students need for their personal and professional lives. The College of Arts and Sciences offers undergraduate majors in behavioral neuroscience, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, criminal justice, economics, English, game design and development, gerontology, history, independent majors, interdisciplinary studies, law in society, mathematics, philosophy, political science, psychology, sociology, Spanish language and literature, and theater.


In addition, the College of Arts and Sciences has 31 undergraduate minors, a combined 4 + 1 BS in Biology/MS in molecular and cell biology program, and a master of science in molecular and cell biology program.

• Teaching responsibilities will include: physical sciences lecture and laboratory courses for non-science majors

• Engage in the weekly set-up of equipment 

• Coordinate multiple sections of physical science lecture and lab

• Engage in course development


Qualifications & Special Instructions to Applicants

• Master's degree in a physical science discipline required (by August 2018)

• PhD preferred (by August 2018)  with background and interests in areas such as earth science, physical geology, astronomy, meteorology or other closely related fields 

• Classroom teaching experience in physical sciences lecture and laboratory environments at the undergraduate level

• Experience with the use of instructional technologies highly desired

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Demonstrates a commitment and the ability to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community
