Tenure-track positions (all ranks)

The Department of Computational Medicine & Bioinformatics (DCM&B) at the University of Michigan Medical School seeks outstanding applicants for tenure-track and tenured faculty positions.  DCM&B has 13 primary, 13 joint, and 80 affiliate faculty, and is home to the Bioinformatics Graduate Program which currently has 60 PhD and 23 Master students, with 78 PhD alumni.  DCM&B hosts the NIGMS bioinformatics and NCI proteome informatics pre-doctoral T32 training grants.  DCM&B has grown rapidly, with >six-fold increase in grant funding in the past three years.  Further expansion of DCM&B aims to enhance multi-team collaborations and is supported by the recently launched campus-wide Precision Health and Biosciences Initiatives.

We are currently recruiting 1 mid-career and 2-3 junior faculty members to establish independent research programs that address emerging challenges in analyzing large, complex multi-omics and biomedical datasets.  Innovative researchers in bioinformatics, computational biology, and advanced methodological development as applied to biomedical research are encouraged to apply.  Several areas of programmatic interest will receive special consideration:

  • Multiscale integrative omics and systems biology, with emphasis on quantitative methods
  • Biomedical data science methodology, including statistical modeling and inference, natural language processing, imaging analytics, machine learning/Artificial Intelligence, and visualization.
  • Translational bioinformatics as applied to studies of complex diseases (e.g., cancers, psychiatric disorders)

Joint appointments may be considered with the Michigan Institute for Data Science (MIDAS), Life Sciences Institute, medical school basic science departments, Learning Health Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, partnering clinical departments, and other appropriate units.  There are extensive computational and data science resources available.  Opportunities exist for faculty leadership roles in clinical and biomedical informatics as well as for partnerships with industry.

Successful candidates will have a PhD and/or MD degree in areas such as multi-scale integrative omics analysis, machine learning, systems and network biology, natural language processing and ontologies as applied to biomedical data mining, and informatics research related to EHR, healthcare delivery, clinical decision support, or pharmacogenomics.

Applicants should send a letter of interest, Curriculum Vitae, statements of interest in research and in graduate education, and a list of three or more references to:
