Westlake Institute for Advanced Study (WIAS) is an elite, private, comprehensive research institute located in the beautiful city of Hangzhou, China. WIAS aims to become a top research institute in the world, pushing the frontiers of science and technology. WIAS has four research institutes: Natural Sciences (covering mathematics, physics, chemistry, and emerging fields of sciences), Advanced Technology (covering all branches of engineering), Biology (covering all branches of modern experimental biology and computational biology), Basic Medical Sciences (covering all branches of medical sciences). Each Institute has 50+ faculty positions at all ranks, to be filled in the next 5-8 years.

The Institute of Natural Sciences (INS), as the foundation of the School of Science in Westlake University in the near future, carries out fundamental, forward-looking, and systematic scientific research on mathematics, physics, and chemistry. It cultivates innovative top talents to build a world-class innovation platform. INS will coordinate various disciplines and start-up positions. Positive personnel interaction is conducted following international trends and discipline construction, which has appropriate volume, reasonable structure, orderly flow and vital international influence. INS will set up first-class personnel through well-designed stages.

INS invites applicants for tenured and/or tenure-track faculty positions in 2018. The research fields include, but not limited to:

-Mathematics: Number Theory (Arithmetic Geometry, Analytic Number Theory, Automorphic Forms, Elliptic Curves, etc.), Algebraic Geometry, Commutative Algebra, Representation Theory, Harmonic Analysis, Several Complex Variables, Partial Differential Equations, Differential Geometry and Geometric Analysis, Algebraic Topology and Low-Dimensional Topology, etc.

-Physics: Quantum Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Atomic and Molecular Physics, Optics, etc. Both experimentalists and theorists are welcome to apply.

-Chemistry: Synthetic Chemistry (including Organic and Inorganic Syntheses), Homogeneous Catalysis and Heterogeneous Catalysis, Surface and Interfacial Chemistry, Chemical Theory and Mechanism (Theoretical and Computational Chemistry, Chemical thermodynamics and Dynamics, Structural Chemistry, Chemical Information Science, etc.), Materials Chemistry and Energy Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, etc.

Outstanding scholars working in related interdisciplinary frontiers are also welcome to apply.

The primary criteria for the evaluation of faculty applications include evidence of ability to establish and pursue a program of high-quality research and a strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching. Appointments are made at four levels: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Full Professor, and Endowed Chair Professor.
