As a postdoctoral fellow in the Discovery Chemistry department, Kenilworth NJ you will work with a highly collaborative team of scientists to design, synthesize and evaluate a novel series of novel nitric oxide (NO) and nitroxyl (HNO) donors towards the treatment of cardiovascular disorders, including heart failure and hypertension. You will be exposed to an interdisciplinary research program that will cut across several internal MRL groups, including discovery chemistry, drug metabolism, analytical chemistry, molecular and investigative toxicology and cardiometabolic disease.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Design and synthesis of novel NO and HNO donors. The preferred candidate should possess extensive experience in synthetic organic chemistry and have a strong interest in medicinal chemistry.
  • Characterization of complex organic molecules using GC, LCMS, and 2D NMR techniques.
  • Collaborations with Merck and external scientists conducting in vivo heart failure and hypertension model studies to correlate and validate in vitro results
  • Data interpretation, manuscript preparation, publication and presentation of results
  • Contribute to a safe and compliant laboratory work environment

Education Minimum Requirement:  
  •  PhD with less than 3 years of Postdoctoral Experience or achieved a  PhD by Spring/Summer of  2018 
 Required Experience and Skills:
  • Synthetic chemistry lab skills and proven ability to design, synthesize and characterize novel organic molecules
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of all aspects of drug discovery including medicinal chemistry and basic principles of drug pharmacokinetics and metabolism
  • Experience in characterization of organic molecules by GC, LCMS or 1 and 2D NMR methods
  • Must be independent and self-motivated scientist
Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • Ability to apply data-mining, data visualization and other computational chemistry techniques to complex datasets for the development of novel structure-activity relationships and QSAR models for potency, toxicology and pharmacokinetics
  • Demonstrable computational chemistry experience and use of scientific software such as Pipeline Pilot, Spotfire and Chemdraw
  • Ability to draft technical reports, manuscripts for scientific journals, patent applications, and present work internally and externally to consultants and collaborators, as needed.
