Position Overview:  
As a postdoctoral fellow in the Merck Research Laboratories Discovery Oncology Department you will work with a highly collaborative team of scientists focused on Immuno-Oncology basic research and development. You will work on conceiving, designing, planning and implementing advanced experiments that will enable the delivery of innate immune agonists (including but not limited to STING and RIG-I agonists) to discrete subsets of cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME) upon systemic delivery of encapsulated, targeted liposomes. You will focus on the characterization of liposome compositions in vitro and their biodistribution upon different routes of delivery in vivo, and on the understanding of the pharmocodynamic effects and anti-tumor efficacy they induce in syngeneic tumor-bearing mice. 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  
  • Designing and characterizing liposome formulations that are ‘decorated’ with a specific targeting moiety and encapsulated with innate immune agonists (including but not limited to STING and RIG-I agonists)
  • Collaborating with Merck and external scientists to establish mouse in vivo syngeneic tumor models suitable to readily monitor anti-tumor efficacy and safety 
  • Immunophenotyping and ex vivo functional assessment of the lymphoid, myeloid and non-immune cell components present in the tumor microenvironment of tumor-bearing mice.
  • Data interpretation, manuscript preparation, publication and presentation of results
  • Contribute to a safe and compliant laboratory work environment
Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement: 
  • PhD with 3 years or less of postdoctoral experience or met all the requirements for a PhD by Spring/Summer of  2018
Required Experience and Skills:
  • Skilled in  in vivo models in one or more of the following therapy areas:
    • immunology, immuno-oncology, infectious diseases or autoimmune diseases
  • Experience in flow cytometry 
  • Experience  in cellular immunology
  • Ability to independently design experiments, interpret and track results, and utilize this information to enable assay development
Preferred Experience and Skills: 
  • Experience with nanoparticle or liposome formulation design, delivery and in vivo characterization
  • Bioanalytical experience, ELISA, Luminex, MSD, RNAseq, Signal transduction techniques, ELISPOT, WB
  • Experience in innate immune cell and myeloid cell biology
  • Strong history of publication in peer-reviewed journals
