The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, the federal government’s health sciences university in Bethesda, MD, seeks applications for the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. The candidate selected for this position will be expected to provide visionary leadership to the department in its research and educational missions. Research interests of the 12 tenured or tenure-track faculty members in the department include Bacteriology, Virology, Immunology, Parasitology, Infectious Diseases, and Pathogenic Mechanisms (see http://www.usuhs.edu/mic/). Collaborative research opportunities exist with nearby federal laboratories and their overseas partners, including the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and the Naval Medical Research Center, as well as through the University’s Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Program, a globally distributed clinical research network in DoD medical centers. Candidates are required to have a PhD or MD degree, an internationally-recognized research program in microbiology or a related area, and significant administrative and educational experience. The department is responsible for the microbiology content in the 18-month pre-clerkship phase of the medical student curriculum and for the education and training of graduate students with a particular emphasis on the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Emerging Infectious Diseases. The successful candidate must be a US citizen and must pass a background security clearance check. Full federal salary support and a competitive start-up package will be provided to the selected applicant.
