Job Description
Location/Division Specific Information The Temperature Control (TC) R&D team includes approximately 12 NH based engineers and laboratory technicians for Electrical, Mechanical and refrigeration engineering. The TC R&D team also has a cross functional engineering team of 10-20 people in our India Engineering Center (IEC).

What will you do? We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and proven R&D leader to partner with the TC business unit. This is a R&D leadership role leading a team of about 12 US based engineers & 10-20 globally based engineers that execute project initiatives & strategies across the Business. The candidate will have a proven record of developing and launching successful new products while driving for results in a variety of complex settings. This R&D leader will be responsible for delivering NPD projects to meet business initiatives focused on growth, brand maintenance, quality improvement & margin expansion. The candidate will also help drive the long-term technology enablers. Ideally, the candidate would have experience with TC products. This role is responsible for the design and execution of product testing, analyzing data, drawing conclusions, documentation, communicating results, and product commercialization in line with NPD processes. Proven communication and teamwork skills are essential in this role, which operates in a dynamic, global and cross-functional environment. · Works with the BU Leadership, PMO, Operations & other global functional teams to deliver New products on time and on quality that are aligned with business strategy
· Is a critical partner in the development of the business strategy and must support / lead various RD aspects of the BU strategic planning process like MDRD, STRAP and AOP
· Develops and maintains detailed NPD project roadmaps for the business · Develop and execute the project portfolio roadmap for Thermo fisher Cloud / IOT initiatives for the BU
· Interface directly with many of our larger and more critical customers like ASML, Teradyne, LAM, GE .
· Maximize the productivity and output of the global R&D team working closely with the IEC R&D Director and other R&D leaders across Laboratory Equipment Technologies (LET)
· Develop and execute R&D strategies that ensure predictable NPD project results for all global TC R&D teams
· Champions the advanced innovation efforts for TC collaborating both internally and externally to ensure products remain at the forefront of technology
· Drives the IP strategy and execution
· Develops and executes strategies to ensure NPD projects are delivered on time and that reduce project cycle times
· Lead the global RD team to develop robust NPD product evaluation plans that thoroughly test each aspect of our products · Develop and maintain global governance processes for all aspects of R&D work to ensure that engineers identify and evaluate all critical learning during the early phases of the NPD process
· Drive fully traceable documentation standards & tools for every aspect of R&D work ensuring successful internal and external regulatory audits
· Work with the Division PMO and other RD leaders in LPD / LET for continuous improvement of our NPD processes and tools to drive predictable execution and reduced cycle times
· Collaborating with the other BU R&D managers in LET to drive process and tool improvement to reduce NPD project cycle time while maintaining high product quality
· Maintain accurate and transparent RD budget details throughout the year to enable precise reporting and action · Develop detailed RD budgets to support Annual planning including detailed annual allocation planning for RD resources in the BU and IEC. Budget planning must also be precise for project related spending for prototypes, regulatory evaluation, 3rd party collaboration, IEC spend.
· Responsible for crafting an organizational structure with appropriate processes and tools that enable the team to develop new products of high quality and high reliability
· The TC RD Manager plays a crucial role in talent management, talent acquisition and talent growth for the team. The RD manager will work closely with BU HR to develop organizational strategies that drive career growth opportunities and clear succession planning
· Develop tools and processes that drive high levels of critical thinking throughout the entire TC R&D team & the IEC CS team
· Drive continuous improvement in all aspects of R&D work, tools and processes
· Ability to travel approximately 30%

How will you get here?
Education requirements: ·
BS/MS in an engineering or scientific discipline

Experience Requirements:
· 10+ years relevant product experience
· 10+ years leading R&D teams
· Proven track record of success delivering NPD projects on time, on cost and on quality
· Strong working knowledge equipment manufacturing environments
· Direct experience launching new products that meet global medical device and UL/CE regulatory standards.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
· Strong business acumen and an ability to craft R&D strategies that directly support the business needs.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate professionally in a global environment across multiple cultures and all levels of employees.
· Experienced with continuous process improvement efforts (i.e. six sigma) · Must possess fluent computer skills in MS Office tools
