Merck’s success is backed by ethical integrity, forward momentum, and an inspiring mission to achieve new milestones in global healthcare. As a member of the waste team in the Global Safety and Environment organization, the Waste Center of Excellence (CoE) member will be responsible for providing project management and technical support to waste and dangerous goods programs and site support globally. This includes waste regulatory tracking, advocacy support, technical expertise, compliance programs permit application/negotiation, program and tools development, risk mitigation efforts and technical training. Develop programs to achieve these goals in alignment with GSE and business goals and values.
The CoE member will be based in the US region and will focus support in assigned region(s) while also developing a global regulatory knowledge base with respect to waste and DG compliance projects.
Recognize, respond and advocate company position to changing waste management trends, market conditions, regulatory legislation, etc. Evaluates and integrates the information to define and proactively contribute to programs addressing any potential impact on business operations, products and businesses. Contributes to the waste management compliance strategy, especially with respect to Company Corporate waste goals.
Collaborate with regional Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) leads, site EHS professionals and GSE CoE’s to ensure compliant and cost effective waste programs are implemented. Adhere to all financial commitments and processes. As directed, collaborates with internal and external business partners, regional GSE leads and site EHS managers to achieve business results and to resolve compliance issues to ensure company business continuity.

30% travel is required for this positionQualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:
  • Bachelor's Degree is required (preferred concentration in EHS or related technical discipline, e.g. Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other Science based degree)
Required Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years waste program management and implementation.
  • Manufacturing or research site waste management experience.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills with ethics as a core value.
  • Experience with worldwide waste regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, ability to work transparently and with a sense of urgency across various businesses and functions.
