Morbidity and mortality related to cardiovascular events (CVD) remain one of the principal factors that can impair life and quality of life in patients with SLE. Traditional CV risk factors are not sufficient to explain the higher risk for CV events compared to general population. It is crucial to investigate additional risk factors related to SLE. Endothelial dysfunction (ED) has been recently described as potential preclinical biomarker for severity and CV risk in several autoimmune disease, however few data are available. Aim of the study will be the analysis of ED as biomarker of CV risk in SLE patient with a recent diagnosis and the possible relation with activity of the disease. Moreover we will analyze the use of other analysis (cytofluorimetry, capillaroscopy, and endoPAT) that could be useful in the early diagnosis and CV risk stratification in SLE patients.
