WHOLE-TRANSCRIPTOME PAIRED-END SEQUENCING IN PANCREATIC CANCER AND PRECURSOR LESIONS
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in Western Countries. Projections based on the changing demographics of the U.S. population and changes in incidence and death rates reveal the startling observation that pancreatic cancer is anticipated to move from the fourth to the second leading cause of cancer death within a decade. The identification of novel diagnostic approaches based on genetic analyses in correlation with the histopathology may be particularly useful to determine prognosis, follow-up and surgical management of Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasms (IPMN) and PDAC patients. We will perform fine genotyping of both benign (IPMN) and in advanced, localized, resected PDA to further correlate expression profiling with genomic features.
