Congenital heart defects (CHD) are the most prevalent of all human birth defects (6-8 per 1000 live births). Atrial and ventricular septum defects (AVSD) are diagnosed in routine echography when a disruption of blood flow between the left and right atria, and/or between the left and right ventricle, is detected by the 18th and 22nd week of pregnancy. Currently no pharmacological or cellular based therapy exists to cure severe heart malformation. We aim to generate genetic, cellular, and chemical reagents that will lead to the establishment of a therapeutic protocol to correct non-syndromic AVSD mutations
