To excel as a world-class research institution and generator of knowledge, the School of Life Sciences takes pride in commissioning high impact research project.

Prof. Hon-Ming Lam of the School, leading a team of plant and agricultural researchers has been awarded funding in excess of HKD81 million over 8 years from the Areas of Excellence (AoE) Scheme under the University Grants Committee (UGC) to establish the AoE-Center for Genomic Studies on Plant-Environment Interaction for Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security (AoE-GSPEI). The appointee will work closely with the AoE-GSPEI team to address important scientific issues on plant genomics and molecular biology. It is hoped that the new appointee can embrace that agenda with the support of abundant facilities provided here to all faculties.

Applicants should have (i) excellent academic qualifications including a doctoral degree (PhD) in plant sciences, molecular biology, plant genomics, biotechnology, bioinformatics or other biological field, with extensive research experience in plant biology; (ii) strong commitment to excellent teaching and research; and (iii) a track record of strong research abilities and publications, particularly in genomic study, gene/pathway networking and integration of bioinformatics data.

The appointee will (a) participate actively in the AoE research project; (b) teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses; (c) supervise students on their research; (d) document findings and write grant proposals, grant reports, summaries of projects and manuscripts; and (e) perform other tasks as assigned by the Director.

Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for three years commencing March 2018, renewable subject to mutual agreement and satisfactory performance.
