As a Senior Analytics Developer- Modeling and Simulation at Merck’s Austin IT HUB, you will be part of inventing tomorrow. Our Innovative centers are where great people come together and deliver solutions that save and improve lives.


 


The Senior Analytics Developer – Modeling and Simulation will work in collaboration with other members of the MRL-IT Engineering group on design and implementation of scientific applications using the R programming system including RShiny.


 


Responsibilities include gathering and reviewing technical requirements, designing and developing code, and working with vendor partners to deliver enterprise scale applications serving multiple business groups involved in mathematical modeling and simulation.



The key activities for this hands-on individual contributor role include:




  • Design and develop R and RShiny based applications including R packages interfacing to web services.


  • Design software meeting complexity of distributed and scalable web based enterprise scale applications including UI applications and APIs.


  • Create code that meets design specifications, follows standards, and is easy to maintain.


  • Perform aspects of the project Software Development Lifecycle, including design, implementation, installation, acceptance, and transition to support and operations teams.


  • Perform and design testing protocols to ensure that applications are fully tested, including unit testing, and system testing.


  • Work with business and infrastructure teams in the organization to ensure appropriate project requirements are met.


  • Working in an agile, fast paced development cycle, environment on multiple projects.


  • Leverage Merck IT Platforms to design architecture and solutions.
Qualifications

Education:




  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, or a scientific, or engineering discipline

Required:




  • Minimum of 3 years of professional software engineering experience developing enterprise grade applications.


  • Experience with leading development teams.


  • Expertise in R language and RShiny including optimizing code for performance.


  • Expertise in designing and developing visualization applications and workflows.


  • Expertise in building complex, highly available and scalable enterprise applications including web applications.


  • Experience with Web Services and RESTful APIs.


  • Troubleshooting issues in enterprise applications.


  • Proficiency in LINUX and Windows operating systems.


  • Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate technical and non-technical information verbally and in writing.


  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of professionals globally including outsourced development teams.

Preferred:




  • Experience with programming in Javascript, Python, C#, .NET technologies


  • Experience in leveraging Cloud technologies especially Amazon Web Services


  • Knowledge of UI design for scientific computation and visualization


  • Experience with project management technologies such as Confluence and Jira


  • Knowledge of the drug discovery process.
