As a Senior UX Designer at Merck’s Austin IT HUB, you will be part of inventing tomorrow. Our Innovative centers are where great people come together and deliver solutions that save and improve lives.

We are seeking motivated talent interested in solving problems to improve tomorrow.

You will: 

  • Define interaction models, user task flows, and UI specifications 

  • Communicate scenarios, end-to-end experiences, and screen designs to stakeholders 

  • Produce high-quality visual designs from concept to execution, including those for desktop, web, and mobile devices at a variety of resolutions 

  • Create and iterate on assets that reflect a brand, enforce a language, and inject beauty and life into a product 

  • Work with stakeholders, development teams, product owners, user researchers, visual designers, and others to ensure a great user experience is delivered 

  • Have your say in product visions and roadmaps before development of products starts 

  • Help with defining, implementing, and evangelizing UCD methodology and Lean UX principles 

  • Be part of the Global User Experience team with representation in the US, Prague, and Singapore. 

  • Have the chance to lead smaller UX teams or coach junior colleagues

The ideal candidate would also be able to create functional implementations of a product's interface. Often, a UX Designer hands off a static mockup to a front-end developer who then translates it into a working, interactive experience. Front-end developers are also responsible for coding the visual interactions that the visual designer comes up with. The ideal candidate will be able to both specify an interface and then implement portions of it.

 Qualifications

Educational Requirements: 

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related Engineering field 

  • Master's degree preferred

Required Experience: 



  • 5 or more years of experience designing for the web and for mobile devices 

  • Knowledge of how individual components of user-centered design (user research, interaction, and visual design) work together 

  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a broader team 

  • Able to effectively communicate to all levels of the business 

  • Proficiency in graphic design, motion graphics, digital art, a sensitivity to typography and color, a general awareness of materials/textures, and a practical grasp of animation 

  • Knowledge of Design Thinking, and the ability to facilitate Discovery Workshops and Design Sprints 

Preferred Experience: 



  • Experience with and knowledge of qualitative and quantitative user research techniques 

  • Knowledge of Lean Agile development 

  • Technical education or prior programming experience 

  • Knowledge of as many of the the following would be beneficial - Photoshop, Sketch, Illustrator, Fireworks, InVision, CSS, HTML, JavaScript
