The primary objective of Analytical Sciences (AS) Microbiology team is to carry out Microbiology R&D activities supporting formulation and process development in Pharmaceutical Sciences. These activities include develop of analytical characterization methods to evaluate MET (Microbial Enumeration Testing), Bioburden Testing, Endotoxin, Antimicrobial Preservative Risk Assessment, Cleaning and Process Validations, and Environmental Monitoring.  These GMP and non-GMP research studies are carried out to enable preclinical, early clinical and development of robust market formulations and their processes for non-sterile and sterile product development.  This challenging position requires critical thinking, strong communication, flexibility, and the ability to tackle many projects simultaneously.    




Nature and Scope of Position:




The Senior Scientist is responsible for carrying out the lab based research under the direction of a senior leader and with other members of the Rahway Analytical Sciences Microbiology team.    




The Senior Scientist is responsible for applying compendial testing methods as well as accelerating the progression of innovative method development through all clinical phases inspire formulation and process design.  The Senior Scientist is responsible to design and execute research (protocols) and to communicate those results to project teams via various means meeting program timelines.  Further the position may require presentation to broader audiences such as Senior Management, world-wide teams, and external conferences.  The Senior Scientist will contribute to development milestone reports and regulatory filing documents.




Further the Senior Scientists will be involved in department activities such as SOP authoring, notebook reviews, and process improvement.  The position will require understanding of Investigations, CAPAs and deviations.




The Senior Scientist will be involved in the identification, evaluation and recommendation of new Rapid methods technology and instrumentation for the department.  The candidate is expected to apply scientific expertise and research experience to solve problems creatively and independently and be willing to engage collaboratively across Pharmaceutical Sciences.    




Qualifications

Education:  


 



  • A Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology or a related field with a minimum of seven (7) years of industry experience, OR a Master's Degree in Microbiology or related field with a minimum of four (4) years of industry experience. A Ph.D. in microbiology is  preferred.


Required:




  • Experience developing and validating analytical Microbiology methods (AME, MET, Aw, Bacterial endotoxin).

  • Experience documenting methods, validations and SOPs. 

  • A minimum of two (2) years of lab based research.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Collaborate with colleagues in a cross-functional team environment to perform complex experiments with strong attention to detail and documentation. 

  • Accomplish goals under project team timelines.

  • Strength in delivering results on firm deadlines in support of discovery/development programs

Preferred:




  • Pharmaceutical industry experience.


  • Solid understanding of Investigations, CAPA and deviations.
