As part of Merck’s Future TalentProgram, the Pharmacology department in Merck Research Laboratories (MRL),Boston site invites applications for a (6) month co-op position in May-June2018.

 The Cell Pharmacology team islooking for an exceptionally talented and motivated student. Working alongsideexperienced pharmaceutical industry scientists, the successful candidate willcontribute to pharmacological testing and validation of cellular translationalmechanisms of novel therapeutics. The co-op student will be required to masterextensive primary and immortalized cell tissue culture techniques, assaydevelopment, utilizing a range of technology platforms, analyze experimental resultsand present findings at internal group meetings. This opportunity provideshands-on experience in a fast-paced drug discovery environment and a chance tosee if we are the right company for your long-term goals. 

 Essential functions of the roleinclude:

  • Perform state-of-the art cellbiological approaches, including primary cell culture
  • Initiate and complete researchprojects that support pharmacological testing of novel therapeutics across cellularassays
  • Work with industry-standard dataanalysis tools and record keeping, including electronic lab books
  • Communicate data progress atinternal meetings; give a verbal presentation at the completion of training;participate in scientific exchange with Merck scientists

The co-op position will be locatedat Merck Research Laboratories in Boston.

  • Required: Candidates must be currently enrolled in a full-time BS/BA degree program in biology, pharmacology, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Candidates must be returning to school in the Fall of 2018.
  • Candidates must have completed at least (2) college-level courses in biology by May 30, 2018.
  • RequiredExperience:

  • Candidates must be available to work full-time for (6) months beginning in May or June of 2018
  • Candidates must possess superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Candidates must  have a demonstrated record of strong academic achievement, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Candidates must be able to work independently in a multi-functional, team-oriented environment.
  • PreferredExperience:

  • A background in Cell Biology and/or Immunology.
  • Previous laboratory experience.
  • Prior experience in tissue culture and assay development.
  • Self-motivated and highly organized
  • A letter of reference from a professor is highlyrecommended; you may attach it in the same section of the profile as yourresume when applying online.
