The Merck Oncology Discovery team is seeking
a motivated, creative, and technically skilled student for a three month
internship.  The student should have a
strong interest in cancer research and learning about Oncology drug
discovery.  The successful candidate
will serve as an integral member of a multidisciplinary drug discovery
project team developing novel modalities for Immuno-Oncology.  The candidate will work with a scientific
mentor to develop and carry out biochemical, and/or cell-based assays to characterize
potential therapeutic molecules. 


Students with a background in biology, biochemistry,
molecular or cell biology, biomedical engineering, or a related field will be

responsibilities of the Oncology Discovery team member include:

  • Design, execute, interpret and report in vitro experiments.
  • Assist in developing, executing, and
    troubleshooting biochemical, and cell-based assays.
  • Communicate data clearly and concisely to
    teams and stakeholders.
  • Monitor, review, and critically interpret published work to guide research.
  • Collaborate actively with the different project team members.



  • Required:
    Candidates must be currently pursuing a BS/BA
    degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular or cell biology, biomedical
    engineering, or a related field
  • Candidates
    must be returning to school in the Fall of 2018.

  • Required

  • Candidates
    must be available to work full-time for 9-12 weeks beginning in May or June
    of 2018
  • Candidates
    must have basic knowledge in cancer biology/immunology
  • Candidates
    must have experience with basic lab procedures: pipetting, solution
    preparation, plate assays.
  • Candidates
    must have experience with basic mammalian cell culture
  • Candidates
    must have ability to perform accurate data analysis

  • Preferred

  • Excellent
    oral and written communication skills, including preparation of lab
    reports and presentations.
  • Strong attention
    to detail
