At Merck’s Manufacturing Facility in Elkton, Virginia we currently have an Associate Director position available. This subject matter expert will manage a small team of scientists / engineers / analysts that have primary responsibility to manage all vendor / component / raw material changes to support vaccines, biologics, antibiotic and API manufacturing at the site.


 


The successful candidate will have the following job responsibilities:



  • Manage a small team of scientists / engineers / analysts while also performing as the technical subject matter expert for vendor change control.

  • Serve as site Subject Matter Expert for Single-Use / Disposable Process Components

  • Serve as site Subject Matter Expert / QMS Sub-System Owner for Filter Validation

  • Serve as Site Liaison to the Merck Single Use Network

  • Support / consult / lead vendor and raw material product quality investigations for the site and across the Merck network

  • Employ strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Manage, coach and develop team members

  • Write and review technical documents

  • Maintain excellence of compliance with safety, environmental and GMP regulations

    Qualifications

    Education:



    • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or a related science / engineering discipline and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in an industrial setting

    OR



    • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or a related science / engineering discipline and a minimum of 15 years’ experience in an industrial setting

    Required:



    • Expertise in Change Management / Trackwise

    • Experience leading and performing complex technical investigations

    • Experience with Filtration, Single-use Components and Raw Materials

    • Technical Operations, Quality or Operations experience at least two of the following modalities: Large Molecule / Biologics, API, Sterile Filling, or Vaccine manufacturing.

    Preferred:



    • Customer Service Mindset

    • Merck (or other recognized) Six-Sigma Green or Black Belt

    • Self-directed / motivated team player
