Safety Assessment and LaboratoryAnimals Resources (SALAR) helps advance high quality drug candidates intodevelopment by defining the non–clinical safety and selectivity of leadcompounds. SALAR employees evaluate Lead Op candidates and preclinical toxicityof drug development candidates, provide mechanistic understanding ofdrug-induced toxicity, and assess implications for human safety.  SALAR provides collaborative research inanimal model development, veterinary medical and animal care, and researchfacility management. Safety Assessment also responds to regulatory questions insupport of drug registration.

 Intern project summary: TheSummer Intern in the Investigative Developmental and Reproductive Toxicology(iDART) group would have an opportunity to understand current regulatoryguidance for testing novel chemical entities; importantly, the intern willfurther explore various emerging novel innovative assays to predict DART riskincluding genomic-based approaches to explore transcriptional changes underlyingnormal human development and the effects of drug exposure.  The intern will learn techniques to identifynovel molecular biomarkers relevant to developmental toxicity.

Qualifications

Education:
  • Required: Candidates must be currently enrolled in a minimum of a BS/MS in Bioinformatics, Developmental Biology, Chemical/Bio Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Toxicology, Pharmacology, Pharmacy, or relevant discipline
  • Candidates must be returning to school in the Fall of 2018.
  • RequiredExperience:

  • Candidates must be available to work full-time for 9-12 weeks beginning in May or June of 2018
  • PreferredExperience:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Strong analytical skills and background incomputational biology, genomics (Taqman PCR and microarray technology) andmolecular biology
  • Strong proficiency in Excel
  • Experience or familiarity with bioinformaticstools (e.g., miRWalk, TargetScan, miRDB, Diana Lab, RNA22, and EMBL-EBIMicroCosm, KEGG Pathways and Biocarta Pathways)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
